No file in rpm binary package should have the RPM_BUILD_ROOT string in it.
To simplify building of external modules, our kernel-source package
contains some temp files from the Kbuild system. asm/asm-offsets.h is one
of the files that contains the absolute path if make O=$O is used.

The firmware of POWER4 and JS20 systems does not switch the cpu to 64bit
mode when the registered system_reset and machine_check handlers get called.
If a 32bit process runs on that cpu at the time of the event, the cpu
remains in 32bit mode. xmon and kdump can not deal with it, the result is
an error like 'Bad kernel stack pointer fff2aad0 at 3200'.
xmon just loses some register info, but booting the kdump kernel usually fails.
Both handlers are not hot paths. Duplicate the EXCEPTION_PROLOG_PSERIES macro
and add two instructions to switch to 64bit:

The SET_NETDEV_DEV has to be done before a call to register_netdev. With
the new patch below, the device symlink for the platform device was
created. Unfortunately, after the 4 ls commands, the network connection

The address of variable val in prom_init_stdout is passed to prom_getprop.
prom_getprop casts the pointer to u32 and passes it to call_prom in the hope
that OpenFirmware stores something there.
But the pointer is truncated in the lower bits and the expected value is
stored somewhere else.
In my testing I had a stackpointer of 0x0023e6b4. val was at offset 120,
wich has address 0x0023e72c. But the value passed to OF was 0x0023e728.

The stackpointer came from 32bit code.
The chain was yaboot -> zImage -> vmlinux
PowerMac OpenFirmware does appearently not handle the ELF sections
correctly. If yaboot was compiled in
/usr/src/packages/BUILD/lilo-10.1.1/yaboot, then the stackpointer is
unaligned. But the stackpointer is correct if yaboot is compiled in
/tmp/yaboot.
This bug triggered since 2.6.15, now prom_getprop is an inline
function. gcc clears the lower bits, instead of just clearing the
upper 32 bits.

The CSR contains garbage after a coldboot on RS/6000.
One some systems (like my 44p 270) the MAC address is all FF,
on others (like my B50) it is ff:ff:ff:fd:ff:6b.
It can eventually be fixed by loading pcnet32, set the interface
into the UP state, rmmod pcnet32 and load it again. But this worked
only on the 270.
Only netbooting after a cold start provides the correct MAC address
via prom and CSR. This makes it very unreliable.
I dont know why the MAC is stored in two different places. Remove
the special case for powerpc, which was added in early 2.4 development.

'make install' creates a /boot/zImage[.vmode] file when the defconfig is used.
It uses the second arg as file content, which is the vmlinux, and the 5th
arg as file name, which is the BOOTIMAGE name.
A comment in an earlier patch to install.sh states that yaboot can not load
a zImage+initrd combo. This was true in kernel 2.6.5 because it did use
bi_recs to pass the initrd info. But this concept was always broken.
Register r3 holds the initrd address and r4 holds the initrd size. This
works with all kernel versions. The current code in main.c leaves r3 and
r4 alone, so the kernel should be able to see and use the memory range with
the initrd content.
If one wants to rerun mkinitrd, it is currently hard to get the uname -r
value for the installed zImage. Without this info, mkinitrd can not know
what modules to use. This would be fixable by including the /proc/version
output of the new kernel. But it is simpler to just use the plain vmlinux.
So all this patch does is to write to /boot/vmlinux instead to /boot/zImage

While looking for possible candidates for our udev.rules package,
I found a few odd ->name properties. /dev/watchdog has minor 130
according to devices.txt. Since all watchdog drivers use the
misc_register() call, they will end up in /sys/class/misc/$foo.
udev may create the /dev/watchdog node if the driver is loaded.
I dont have such a device, so I cant test it.
The drivers below provide names with spaces and even with / in it.
Not a big deal, but apps may expect /dev/watchdog.

If both CONFIG_XMON and CONFIG_XMON_DEFAULT is enabled in the .config,
there is no way to disable xmon again. setup_system calls first xmon_init,
later parse_early_param. So a new 'xmon=off' cmdline option will do the right
thing.

Make the bootheader for ppc64 independent from kernel and libc headers.
* add -nostdinc -isystem $gccincludes to not include libc headers
* declare all functions in header files, also the stuff from string.S
* declare some functions static
* use stddef.h to get size_t (hopefully ok)
* remove ppc32-types.h, only elf.h used the __NN types

sparc can not include linux/pagemap.h because of the following circular
dependency:
asm-sparc/pgtable include linux/swap.h
linux/swap.h include now linux/pagemap.h
linux/pagemap.h include linux/mm.h
linux/mm.h include asm/pgtable.h
It needs to have the swp_entry_t type fully visible in pgtable.h,
we can't work around this using macros.

This bites me all day when I use our default config for ppc64. We use a
patch to fix the compile errors and provide the CONFIG_MAC_EMUMOUSEBTN

it.

Just hide all the ADB parts from via-pmu on ppc64 instead.

A recent change to the aic scsi driver removed two defines to detect
