Sam Ravnborg c8dc68ad0f kconfig/lxdialog: support resize
In all dialogs now properly catch KEY_RESIZE and take proper action.
In mconf try to behave sensibly when a dialog routine returns
-ERRDISPLAYTOOSMALL.

The original check for a screnn size of 80x19 is kept for now.
It may make sense to remove it later, but thats anyway what
much text is adjusted for.

Sam Ravnborg f3cbcdc955 kconfig/lxdialog: let <ESC><ESC> behave as expected
<ESC><ESC> is used to step one back in the dialogs.
When lxdialog became built-in pressing <ESC> once would cause one step back
and pressing <ESC><ESC> would cause two steps back.
This patch - based on concept from Roman Zippel <[email protected]> -
makes one <ESC> a noop and pressing <ESC><ESC> will cause one step backward.

In addition the final yes/no dialog now has the option to go back to the
the kernel configuration. So if you get too far out you can now go back
to configuring the kernel without saving and starting all over again.

Sam Ravnborg 2982de6993 kconfig/menuconfig: lxdialog is now built-in
lxdialog was previously called as an external program causing screen
to flicker when used. With this patch lxdialog is now built-in.
It is loosly based om previous work by: Petr Baudis <[email protected]>

Following is a list of changes:
o Moved build of dialog routings to kconfig Makefile
o menubox + checklist uses a new item list to hold all menu items
o in util.c implmented helper function to deal with item list
o menubox now uses parameters to save scroll state (avoids temp file)
o textbox now get text to be displayed as parameter and not a file
o make sure to properly delete subwin's before main windows
o killed unused files: lxdialog.c msgbox.c
o modified return value for ESC to match direct calling
o in a few places the code has been adjusted to 80 char wide
o in textbox a small refactoring was made to make code remotely readable
o in mconf removed all unused stuff (functions/variables)

Following is a list of know short comings:
a) pressing ESC twice will be interpreted as two ESC presses
b) resize does not work. menuconfig needs to be restarted to be adjusted

Sam Ravnborg 350b5b7638 kconfig/lxdialog: add a new theme bluetitle which is now default
The bluetitle theme is a slightly modified version of the colorscheme
that -mm users has been used to. The bluetitle is more readable especially
on some LCD screens so it is now default.
Anyone that really wants the old color selection can get it by selecting
the classic color theme:
make MENUCONFIG_COLOR=classic menuconfig

The bluetitle theme was modified by Roman Zippel <[email protected]>
to further improve readability on LCD screens.

Sam Ravnborg 45d506bd65 kbuild: make V=2 tell why a target is rebuild
tell why a a target got build
   enabled by make V=2
Output (listed in the order they are checked):
         (1) - due to target is PHONY
         (2) - due to target missing
         (3) - due to: file1.h file2.h
         (4) - due to command line change
         (5) - due to missing .cmd file
         (6) - due to target not in $(targets)
(1) We always build PHONY targets
(2) No target, so we better build it
(3) Prerequisite is newer than target
(4) The command line stored in the file named dir/.target.cmd
differed from actual command line. This happens when compiler
    options changes
(5) No dir/.target.cmd file (used to store command line)
(6) No dir/.target.cmd file and target not listed in $(targets)
This is a good hint that there is a bug in the kbuild file

Sam Ravnborg 5e8d780d74 kbuild: fix ia64 breakage after introducing make -rR
kbuild used $¤(*F to get filename of target without extension.
This was used in several places all over kbuild, but introducing
make -rR broke his for all cases where we specified full path to
target/prerequsite. It is assumed that make -rR disables old style
suffix-rules which is why is suddenly failed.

ia64 was impacted by this change because several div* routines in
arch/ia64/lib are build using explicit paths and then kbuild failed.

Thanks to David Mosberger-Tang <[email protected]> for an explanation
what was the root-cause and for testing on ia64.

initramfs.cpio.gz being build in usr/ and included in the

To fix this the following was done:
- let gen_initramfs.sh generate a list of files and directories included

- gen_initramfs generate the gzipped cpio archive so we could simplify
  the kbuild file (Makefile)
- utilising the kbuild infrastructure so when uid/gid root mapping changes
  the initramfs will be rebuild

With this change we have a much more robust initramfs generation.

In several cases the section mismatch check triggered false warnings.
Following patch introduce a whitelist to 'false positives' are not warned of.
Two types of patterns are recognised:

In both patterns we rely on the actual name of the variable assigned

Sam Ravnborg 6e10133fa4 kbuild: do not warn when unwind sections references .init/.exit sections
Andrew Morton reported a number of false positives for ia64 - like these:
WARNING: drivers/acpi/button.o - Section mismatch: reference to .init.text: from .IA_64.unwind.init.text after '' (at offset 0x0)
WARNING: drivers/acpi/button.o - Section mismatch: reference to .exit.text: from .IA_64.unwind.exit.text after '' (at offset 0x0)
WARNING: drivers/acpi/processor.o - Section mismatch: reference to .init.text: from .IA_64.unwind after '' (at offset 0x1e8)

They are all false positives - or at least the .c code looks OK.
It is not known why sometimes a section name is appended and sometimes not.

Fix is to accept references from all sections that includes "unwind." in the name.

Sam Ravnborg b39927cf4c kbuild: check for section mismatch during modpost stage
Section mismatch is identified as references to .init*
sections from non .init sections. And likewise references
to .exit.* sections outside .exit sections.

.init.* sections are discarded after a module is initialized
and references to .init.* sections are oops candidates.
.exit.* sections are discarded when a module is built-in and
thus references to .exit are also oops candidates.

The checks were possible to do using 'make buildcheck' which
called the two perl scripts: reference_discarded.pl and
reference_init.pl. This patch just moves the same functionality
inside modpost and the scripts are then obsoleted.
They will though be kept for a while so users can do double
checks - but note that some .o files are skipped by the perl scripts
so result is not 1:1.
All credit for the concept goes to Keith Owens who implemented
the original perl scrips - this patch just moves it to modpost.

Compared to the perl script the implmentation in modpost will be run
for each kernel build - thus catching the error much sooner, but
the downside is that the individual .o file are not always identified.

Sam Ravnborg 06300b21f4 kbuild: support building individual files for external modules
Support building individual files when dealing with separate modules.
So say you have a module named "foo" which consist of two .o files bar.o
and fun.o.

You can then do:
make -C $KERNELSRC M=`pwd` bar.o
make -C $KERNELSRC M=`pwd` bar.lst
make -C $KERNELSRC M=`pwd` bar.i
make -C $KERNELSRC M=`pwd` /            <= will build all .o files
                                           and link foo.o
make -C $KERNELSRC M=`pwd` foo.ko       <= will build the module
                                           and do the modpost step
					   to create foo.ko

The above will also work if the external module is placed in a
subdirectory using a hirachy of kbuild files.

Sam Ravnborg 3835f82183 kconfig: fix /dev/null breakage
While running "make menuconfig" and "make mrproper"
some people experienced that /dev/null suddenly changed
permissions or suddenly became a regular file.
The main reason was that /dev/null was used as output
to gcc in the check-lxdialog.sh script and gcc did
some strange things with the output file; in this
case /dev/null when it errorred out.

Following patch implements a suggestion
from Bryan O'Sullivan <[email protected]> to
use gcc -print-file-name=libxxx.so.

Also the Makefile is adjusted to not resolve value of
HOST_EXTRACFLAGS and HOST_LOADLIBES until they are actually used.

Sam Ravnborg cb58455c48 kbuild: KERNELRELEASE is only re-defined when buiding the kernel
To avoid running setlocalversion as root no longer (re-)define
KERNELRELEASE for each run. With this patch KERNELRELEASE is
only re-read when we do an actual kernel build.
Rationale behind this is "do as little as possible" when executing
make install - as root!

A new file named .kernelrelease is strored in the root of the kernel
tree containing the actual version string.
So when we use do a kernel build the .kernelrelease file will be updated.
But in all other situations it is left as-is.

To make it more visible the kernel now prints out the version being build.
Sample:
Building kernel 2.6.15-g63b794bf-dirty
...
...

The patch also un-exports VERSION PATCHLEVEL SUBLEVEL EXTRAVERSION LOCALVERSION
since all users of these are anyway broken - and none is left in the
tree.
