Yinghai Lu 871d5f8dd0 x86: get mp_bus_to_node early
Currently, on an amd k8 system with multi ht chains, the numa_node of
pci devices under /sys/devices/pci0000:80/* is always 0, even if that
chain is on node 1 or 2 or 3.

Workaround: pcibus_to_node(bus) is used when we want to get the node that
pci_device is on.

In struct device, we already have numa_node member, and we could use
dev_to_node()/set_dev_node() to get and set numa_node in the device.
set_dev_node is called in pci_device_add() with pcibus_to_node(bus),
and pcibus_to_node uses bus->sysdata for nodeid.

The problem is when pci_add_device is called, bus->sysdata is not assigned
correct nodeid yet. The result is that numa_node will always be 0.

pcibios_scan_root and pci_scan_root could take sysdata. So we need to get
mp_bus_to_node mapping before these two are called, and thus
get_mp_bus_to_node could get correct node for sysdata in root bus.

In scanning of the root bus, all child busses will take parent bus sysdata.
So all pci_device->dev.numa_node will be assigned correctly and automatically.

Later we could use dev_to_node(&pci_dev->dev) to get numa_node, and we
could also could make other bus specific device get the correct numa_node
too.

This is an updated version of pci_sysdata and Jeff's pci_domain patch.

Yinghai Lu 05c58b8ac7 x86: mmconf enable mcfg early
Patch
	"x86: validate against ACPI motherboard resources"

changed the mmconf init sequence, and init MMCONF late in acpi_init.

here change it back to old sequence:

 1. check hostbridge in early
 2. check MCFG with e820 in early
 3. if all fail, will check MCFg with acpi _CRS in acpi_init

So we can make MCONF working again when acpi=off is set if hostbridge
support that.

Yinghai Lu 8643f9d02a x86: get boot_cpu_id as early for k8_scan_nodes
When acpi=off or there is no SRAT defined, apicid_to_node is got from K8
Northbridge PCI configuration space in k8_scan_nodes() in
arch/x86_64/mm/k8toplogy.c.

The problem is that it assumes bsp apic id is 0 at that point.

For four socket system with Quad core cpus installed, all cpus apic id
is offset by 4, and bsp apic id is 4.

For eight socket system with dual core cpus installed, all cpus apic id
is offset by 2, and bsp apic id is 2.

We need get boot_cpu_id --- bsp apic id, before k8_scan_nodes by called.

So create early_acpi_boot_init and early_get_smp_config for get boot_cpu_id.

Yinghai Lu f8fffa4583 x86: apic_is_clustered_box for vsmp
quad core 8 socket system will have apic id lifting.the apic id range could
be [4, 0x23]. and apic_is_clustered_box will think that need to three clusters
and that is larger than 2. So it is treated as a clustered_box.

and will get:

   Marking TSC unstable due to TSCs unsynchronized

even if the CPUs have X86_FEATURE_CONSTANT_TSC set.

this quick fix will check if the cpu is from AMD.

but vsmp still needs that checking...

this patch is fix to make sure that vsmp not to be passed.

found one entry about reserved is missing for the kernel by kexec.

it turns out init_apic_mappings is called before e820_reserve_resources
in setup_arch. but e820_reserve_resources is using request_resource.
it will not handle the conflicts.

there are three ways to fix it:

1. change request_resource in e820_reserve_resources to to insert_resource
2. move init_apic_mappings after e820_reserve_resources
3. use late_initcall to insert lapic resource.

this patch is using method 3, that is less intrusive.

in later version could consider to use method 1.

resolve boot problem reported by Mel Gorman:

   http://lkml.org/lkml/2008/2/13/404

init_cpu_to_node will use cpu->apic (from MADT or mptable) and
apic->node(from SRAT or AMD config space with k8_bus_64.c) to have
cpu->node mapping, and later identify_cpu will overwrite them

Yinghai Lu 20651af9ac x86: fix mttr trimming
Pavel Emelyanov reported that his networking card did not work
and bisected it down to:

"
The commit

  093af8d7f0
  x86_32: trim memory by updating e820

broke my e1000 card: on loading driver says that

  e1000: probe of 0000:04:03.0 failed with error -5

and the interface doesn't appear.
"

on a 32-bit kernel, base will overflow when try to do PAGE_SHIFT,
and highest_addr will always less 4G.

So use pfn instead of address to avoid the overflow when more than
4g RAM is installed on a 32-bit kernel.

Many thanks to Pavel Emelyanov for reporting and testing it.

Yinghai Lu c3e4642be7 serial: keep the DTR setting for serial console.
with reverting "x86, serial: convert legacy COM ports to platform devices",
we will have the serial console before the port is probled again.

uart_add_one_port==>uart_configure_port==>set_mcttrl(port, 0) will clear
the DTR setting by uart_set_options(). then I will lose my output from
serial console again.

So try to keep DTR in uart_configure_port()

some bios even leave aper to unclear, so check size at last.

To avoid reporting:

Yinghai Lu 093af8d7f0 x86_32: trim memory by updating e820
when MTRRs are not covering the whole e820 table, we need to trim the
RAM and need to update e820.

reuse some code on 64-bit as well.

here need to add early_get_cap and use it in early_cpu_detect, and move
mtrr_bp_init early.

The code successfully trimmed the memory map on Justin's system:

from:

 [    0.000000]  BIOS-e820: 0000000100000000 - 000000022c000000 (usable)

to:

 [    0.000000]   modified: 0000000100000000 - 0000000228000000 (usable)
 [    0.000000]   modified: 0000000228000000 - 000000022c000000 (reserved)

According to Justin it makes quite a difference:

| When I boot the box without any trimming it acts like a 286 or 386,
| takes about 10 minutes to boot (using raptor disks).

Yinghai Lu bc2cea6a34 x86_64: disable the GART in shutdown
For K8 system: 4G RAM with memory hole remapping enabled, or more than 4G
RAM installed. when using kexec to load second kernel. In the second
kernel, when mem is allocated for GART, it will do the memset for clear, it
will cause restart, because some device still used that for dma. solution
will be:

in second kernel: disable that at first before we try to allocate mem for
it. or in the first kernel: do disable that before shutdown.
Andi/Eric/Alan prefer to second one for clean shutdown in first kernel.
Andi also point out need to consider to AGP enable but mem less 4G case
too.

Yinghai Lu 18a8bd949d serial: convert early_uart to earlycon for 8250
Beacuse SERIAL_PORT_DFNS is removed from include/asm-i386/serial.h and
include/asm-x86_64/serial.h. the serial8250_ports need to be probed late in
serial initializing stage.  the console_init=>serial8250_console_init=>
register_console=>serial8250_console_setup will return -ENDEV, and console
ttyS0 can not be enabled at that time. need to wait till uart_add_one_port in
drivers/serial/serial_core.c to call register_console to get console ttyS0.
that is too late.

Make early_uart to use early_param, so uart console can be used earlier. Make
it to be bootconsole with CON_BOOT flag, so can use console handover feature.
and it will switch to corresponding normal serial console automatically.

new command line will be:
	console=uart8250,io,0x3f8,9600n8
	console=uart8250,mmio,0xff5e0000,115200n8
or
	earlycon=uart8250,io,0x3f8,9600n8
	earlycon=uart8250,mmio,0xff5e0000,115200n8

it will print in very early stage:
	Early serial console at I/O port 0x3f8 (options '9600n8')
	console [uart0] enabled
later for console it will print:
	console handover: boot [uart0] -> real [ttyS0]

Yinghai Lu d37bf60de0 console: console handover to preferred console
for earlyprintk=ttyS0,9600 console=tty0 console=ttyS0,9600n8

the handover will happen from earlyser0 to tty0. but what we want is to
hand over to ttyS0.

Later with serial-convert-early_uart-to-earlycon-for-8250.patch,

	console=tty0 console=uart8250,io,0x3f8,9600n8

will handover to ttyS0 instead of tty0.

Yinghai Lu 79492689e4 serial: assert DTR for serial console devices
Some RS-232 devices require DTR to be asserted before they can be used. DTR
is normally asserted in uart_startup() when the port is opened. But we don't
actually open serial console ports, so assert DTR when the port is added.

BTW:
earlyprintk and early_uart are hard coded to set DTR/RTS.

rmk says

  The only issue I can think of is the possibility for an attached modem to
  auto-answer or maybe even auto-dial before the system is ready for it to do
  so. Might have an undesirable cost implication for some running with such a
  setup.

  Apart from that, I can't think of any other side effect of this specific
  patch.

Yinghai Lu d8902bfcac x86_64: early_print kernel console should send CRLF not LFCR
In
	commit d358788f3f
	Author: Russell King <[email protected]>
	Date:   Mon Mar 20 20:00:09 2006 +0000

Glen Turner reported that writing LFCR rather than the more
traditional CRLF causes issues with some terminals.

Since this afflicts many serial drivers, extract the common code to a
library function (uart_console_write) and arrange for each driver to
supply a "putchar" function.

but early_printk is left out.
