There has been a coding error in rtl8821ae since it was first introduced,
namely that an 8-bit register was read using a 16-bit read in
_rtl8821ae_dbi_read(). This error was fixed with commit 40b368af4b
("rtlwifi: Fix alignment issues"); however, this change led to
instability in the connection. To restore stability, this change
was reverted in commit b8b8b16352 ("rtlwifi: rtl8821ae: Fix connection
lost problem").
Unfortunately, the unaligned access causes machine checks in ARM
architecture, and we were finally forced to find the actual cause of the
problem on x86 platforms. Following a suggestion from Pkshih
<[email protected]>, it was found that increasing the ASPM L1
latency from 0 to 7 fixed the instability. This parameter was varied to
see if a smaller value would work; however, it appears that 7 is the
safest value. A new symbol is defined for this quantity, thus it can be
easily changed if necessary.

With the RTL8822BE and later devices, the number of interrupt vectors
has grown from 2 to 4. At this point, saving and passing those vectors
in a struct makes more sense than using individual scaler variables.
In two of the drivers, code to process the second of the interrupt
registers was included, but commented out. This patch removes those
useless sections.

When not associated with an AP, wifi device drivers should respond to the
SIOCGIWESSID ioctl with a zero-length string for the SSID, which is the
behavior expected by dhcpcd.
Currently, this driver returns an error code (-1) from the ioctl call,
which causes dhcpcd to assume that the device is not a wireless interface
and therefore it fails to work correctly with it thereafter.

In routine rtl92ee_set_fw_rsvdpagepkt(), the driver allocates an skb, but
never calls rtl_cmd_send_packet(), which will free the buffer. All other
rtlwifi drivers perform this operation correctly.
This problem has been in the driver since it was included in the kernel.
Fortunately, each firmware load only leaks 4 buffers, which likely
explains why it has not previously been detected.

The changes in this commit are also being sent to the main rtlwifi
drivers in wireless-next; however, these changes will also be useful for
any debugging of r8822be before it gets moved into the main tree.
Use debugfs to dump register and btcoex status, and also write registers
and h2c.
We create topdir in /sys/kernel/debug/rtlwifi/, and use the MAC address
as subdirectory with several entries to dump mac_reg, bb_reg, rf_reg etc.
An example is
/sys/kernel/debug/rtlwifi/00-11-22-33-44-55-66/mac_0
This change permits examination of device registers in a dynamic manner,
a feature not available with the current debug mechanism.
We use seq_file to replace RT_TRACE to dump status, then we can use 'cat'
to access btcoex's status through debugfs.
(i.e. /sys/kernel/debug/rtlwifi/00-11-22-33-44-55-66/btcoex)
Other related changes are
1. implement btc_disp_dbg_msg() to access btcoex's common status.
2. remove obsolete field bt_exist

Changes in the drivers for RTL8723BE and RTL8821AE require corresponding
changes in the firmware. This new firmware has been accepted into the
Linux firmware repo. To handle the case where the kernel has been
updated before the firmware, the new versions have been given new names.
The code will attempt to read the new name, and fall back to the old one
if the new one is not available.

This was caused by the device having NULL dma_ops, triggering the
BUG_ON(). Previously the device inherited its dma_ops via the assignment
to dev->ofdev.dev.archdata. However after commit 5657933dbb the
dma_ops are moved into dev->ofdev.dev, and so they need to be explicitly
copied.

These drivers use a set of complicated macros to extract and insert
information for the RX and TX descriptors. Driver rtl8192cu had a
different set than was used for the PCI-based drivers. To simplify
the code, rtl8192cu is switched to use the common version. In the
process, two errors in those common macros were found and fixed.
Besides simplifying the code, there is an additional benefit. We have
no BE hardware to test the PCI driver, but using the common macros
provides an additional test for the validity of many endian-sensitive
operations.

The firmware is read from disk as a little-endian byte string. The code
that loads the firmware into the device transfers it as 4-byte quantities.
The routines that write multi-byte quantities on BE hardware assume that
the data are in CPU order, and automatically do the conversion to the LE
order required by the device. As a result, the firmware is transmitted
incorrectly. Rather than do multiple byte swaps on the data, the download
routine is revised to transmit bytes rather than dwords. Although the
number of I/O operations is increased, the firmware is not often loaded.
All drivers have the same bug, and use essentially the same code to
download firmware. These routines have been moved into rtlwifi.
