Rafael J. Wysocki 1ac5e21d43 powercap: DTPM: Drop unused local variable from init_dtpm()
The dtpm_descr variable in init_dtpm() is not used after commit
f751db8ada ("powercap/drivers/dtpm: Disable DTPM at boot time"),
so drop it.

Rafael J. Wysocki ed38eb49d1 cpufreq: intel_pstate: Fix active mode offline/online EPP handling
After commit 4adcf2e582 ("cpufreq: intel_pstate: Add ->offline and
->online callbacks") the EPP value set by the "performance" scaling
algorithm in the active mode is not restored after an offline/online
cycle which replaces it with the saved EPP value coming from user
space.

Address this issue by forcing intel_pstate_hwp_set() to set a new
EPP value when it runs first time after online.

Rafael J. Wysocki c6f49acb52 i2c: amd-mp2-plat: ACPI: Use ACPI_COMPANION() directly
The ACPI_HANDLE() macro is a wrapper arond the ACPI_COMPANION()
macro and the ACPI handle produced by the former comes from the
ACPI device object produced by the latter, so it is way more
straightforward to evaluate the latter directly instead of passing
the handle produced by the former to acpi_bus_get_device().

Modify i2c_amd_probe() accordingly (no intentional functional impact).

Rafael J. Wysocki 2aa36604e8 PM: sleep: Avoid calling put_device() under dpm_list_mtx
It is generally unsafe to call put_device() with dpm_list_mtx held,
because the given device's release routine may carry out an action
depending on that lock which then may deadlock, so modify the
system-wide suspend and resume of devices to always drop dpm_list_mtx
before calling put_device() (and adjust white space somewhat while
at it).

For instance, this prevents the following splat from showing up in
the kernel log after a system resume in certain configurations:

The ACPI_USE_BUILTIN_STDARG symbol is never set in the kernel build,

Rafael J. Wysocki dbea75fe18 cpufreq: intel_pstate: Clear HWP desired on suspend/shutdown and offline
Commit a365ab6b9d ("cpufreq: intel_pstate: Implement the
->adjust_perf() callback") caused intel_pstate to use nonzero HWP
desired values in certain usage scenarios, but it did not prevent
them from being leaked into the confugirations in which HWP desired
is expected to be 0.

The failing scenarios are switching the driver from the passive
mode to the active mode and starting a new kernel via kexec() while
intel_pstate is running in the passive mode.

To address this issue, ensure that HWP desired will be cleared on
offline and suspend/shutdown.

Rafael J. Wysocki 23f62d7ab2 PM: sleep: Pause cpuidle later and resume it earlier during system transitions
Commit 8651f97bd9 ("PM / cpuidle: System resume hang fix with
cpuidle") that introduced cpuidle pausing during system suspend
did that to work around a platform firmware issue causing systems
to hang during resume if CPUs were allowed to enter idle states
in the system suspend and resume code paths.

However, pausing cpuidle before the last phase of suspending
devices is the source of an otherwise arbitrary difference between
the suspend-to-idle path and other system suspend variants, so it is
cleaner to do that later, before taking secondary CPUs offline (it
is still safer to take secondary CPUs offline with cpuidle paused,
though).

Modify the code accordingly, but in order to avoid code duplication,
introduce new wrapper functions, pm_sleep_disable_secondary_cpus()
and pm_sleep_enable_secondary_cpus(), to combine cpuidle_pause()
and cpuidle_resume(), respectively, with the handling of secondary
CPUs during system-wide transitions to sleep states.

The ordering of operations in pci_back_from_sleep() is incorrect,

Rafael J. Wysocki a2d7b2e004 ACPI: PM: Fix sharing of wakeup power resources
If an ACPI wakeup power resource is shared between multiple devices,
it may not be managed correctly.

Suppose, for example, that two devices, A and B, share a wakeup power
resource P whose wakeup_enabled flag is 0 initially. Next, suppose
that wakeup power is enabled for A and B, in this order, and disabled
for B. When wakeup power is enabled for A, P will be turned on and
its wakeup_enabled flag will be set. Next, when wakeup power is
enabled for B, P will not be touched, because its wakeup_enabled flag
is set. Now, when wakeup power is disabled for B, P will be turned
off which is incorrect, because A will still need P in order to signal
wakeup.

Moreover, if wakeup power is enabled for A and then disabled for B,
the latter will cause P to be turned off incorrectly (it will be still
needed by A), because acpi_disable_wakeup_device_power() is allowed
to manipulate power resources when the wakeup.prepare_count counter
of the given device is 0.

While the first issue could be addressed by changing the
wakeup_enabled power resource flag into a counter, addressing the
second one requires modifying acpi_disable_wakeup_device_power() to
do nothing when the target device's wakeup.prepare_count reference
counter is zero and that would cause the new counter to be redundant.
Namely, if acpi_disable_wakeup_device_power() is modified as per the
above, every change of the new counter following a wakeup.prepare_count
change would be reflected by the analogous change of the main reference
counter of the given power resource.

Accordingly, modify acpi_disable_wakeup_device_power() to do nothing
when the target device's wakeup.prepare_count reference counter is
zero and drop the power resource wakeup_enabled flag altogether.

While at it, ensure that all of the power resources that can be
turned off will be turned off when disabling device wakeup due to
a power resource manipulation error, to prevent energy from being
wasted.

Rafael J. Wysocki 7a63296d6f ACPI: PM: Turn off unused wakeup power resources
If an ACPI power resource is found to be "on" during the
initialization of the list of wakeup power resources of a device,
it is reference counted and its wakeup_enabled flag is set, which is
problematic if the deivce in question is the only user of the given
power resource, it is never runtime-suspended and it is not allowed
to wake up the system from sleep, because in that case the given
power resource will stay "on" until the system reboots and energy
will be wasted.

It is better to simply turn off wakeup power resources that are "on"
during the initialization unless their reference counters are not
zero, because that may be the only opportunity to prevent them from
staying in the "on" state all the time.

prevent the platform from getting into the deepest low-power states
thus causing some energy to be wasted.

If acpi_pci_find_companion() is called for a device whose parent

the ACPI_COMPANION() macro.

This was not a problem before commit 375553a932 ("PCI: Setup ACPI
fwnode early and at the same time with OF") that made pci_setup_device()
call pci_set_acpi_fwnode() and so it allowed devices with NULL parent
pointers to be passed to acpi_pci_find_companion() which is the case
in pci_iov_add_virtfn(), for instance.

Fix this issue by making acpi_pci_find_companion() check the device's
parent pointer upfront and bail out if it is NULL.

While pci_iov_add_virtfn() can be changed to set the device's parent
pointer before calling pci_setup_device() for it, checking pointers
against NULL before dereferencing them is prudent anyway and looking
for ACPI companions of virtual functions isn't really useful.

ACPICA commit 0762982923f95eb652cf7ded27356b247c9774de

During wakeup from system-wide sleep states, acpi_get_sleep_type_data()
is called and it tries to get memory from the slab allocator in order
to evaluate a control method, but if KFENCE is enabled in the kernel,
the memory allocation attempt causes an IRQ work to be queued and a
self-IPI to be sent to the CPU running the code which requires the
memory controller to be ready, so if that happens too early in the
wakeup path, it doesn't work.

Prevent that from taking place by calling acpi_get_sleep_type_data()
for S0 upfront, when preparing to enter a given sleep state, and
saving the data obtained by it for later use during system wakeup.

Using struct pci_platform_pm_ops for ACPI adds unnecessary

Moreover, it is not particularly clear from the current code that,
as far as PCI PM is concerned, "platform" really means just ACPI

There are only two users of struct pci_platform_pm_ops in the tree,

both are enabled, but whether or not this really is the case hinges
on the specific ordering of arch_initcall() calls made by them.

The struct pci_platform_pm_ops abstraction is not really necessary
for just these two users, but it adds complexity and overhead because
of retoplines involved in using all of the function pointers in there.
It also makes following the code a bit more difficult than it would
be otherwise.

Moreover, Intel MID PCI PM doesn't even implement the majority of the
function pointers in struct pci_platform_pm_ops in a meaningful way,
so switch over the PCI core to calling the relevant MID PM routines,

The current HWP calibration for hybrid processors in intel_pstate is
fragile, because it depends too much on the information provided by
the platform firmware via CPPC which may not be reliable enough. It
also need not be so complicated.

In order to improve that mechanism and make it more resistant to
platform firmware issues, make it only use the CPPC nominal_perf
values to compute the HWP-to-frequency scaling factors for all
CPUs and possibly use the HWP_CAP highest_perf values to recompute
them if the ones derived from the CPPC nominal_perf values alone
appear to be too high.

Namely, fetch CPC.nominal_perf for all CPUs present in the system,
find the minimum one and use it as a reference for computing all of
the CPUs' scaling factors (using the observation that for the CPUs
having the minimum CPC.nominal_perf the HWP range of available
performance levels should be the same as the range of available
"legacy" P-states and so the HWP-to-frequency scaling factor for
them should be the same as the corresponding scaling factor used
for representing the P-state values in kHz).

Rafael J. Wysocki 0654cf05d1 ACPI: CPPC: Introduce cppc_get_nominal_perf()
On some systems the nominal_perf value retrieved via CPPC is just
a constant and fetching it doesn't require accessing any registers,
so if it is the only CPPC capability that's needed, it is wasteful
to run cppc_get_perf_caps() in order to get just that value alone,
especially when this is done for CPUs other than the one running
the code.

For this reason, introduce cppc_get_nominal_perf() allowing
nominal_perf to be obtained individually, by generalizing the
existing cppc_get_desired_perf() (and renaming it) so it can be
used to retrieve any specific CPPC capability value.

While at it, clean up the cppc_get_desired_perf() kerneldoc comment
a bit.

Revert commit d0e936adbd ("cpufreq: intel_pstate: Process HWP
Guaranteed change notification"), because it causes a NULL pointer
dereference to occur on Lenovo X1 gen9 laptops due to an HWP
guaranteed performance change interrupt arriving prematurely.

This feature will be revisited in the next cycle.

Rafael J. Wysocki 59dc33252e PCI: VMD: ACPI: Make ACPI companion lookup work for VMD bus
On some systems, in order to get to the deepest low-power state of
the platform (which may be necessary to save significant enough
amounts of energy while suspended to idle. for example), devices on
the PCI bus exposed by the VMD driver need to be power-managed via
ACPI. However, the layout of the ACPI namespace below the VMD
controller device object does not reflect the layout of the PCI bus
under the VMD host bridge, so in order to identify the ACPI companion
objects for the devices on that bus, it is necessary to use a special
_ADR encoding on the ACPI side. In other words, acpi_pci_find_companion()
does not work for these devices, so it needs to be amended with a
special lookup logic specific to the VMD bus.

Address this issue by allowing the VMD driver to temporarily install
an ACPI companion lookup hook containing the code matching the devices
on the VMD PCI bus with the corresponding objects in the ACPI
namespace.
