Antoine du Hamel ad98cf04f3 stream: remove isPromise utility function 
The function was not checking if the parameter was actually a Promise
instance, but if it has a `then` method. Removing the utility function
in favor of a clearer `typeof` check, handling the case when the
thenable throws if then method is accessed more than once.

Antoine du Hamel 30e9fab866 doc: recommend test-doc instead of lint-md 
The documentation style guide used to recommend checking changes in the
docs by running `make lint-md`. This leaves out some important checks
which are contained in the `test-doc` build target. This commit also
replaces `lint` by `lint-md` in the list of `test-doc`'s prerequisites.
