Anshuman Khandual 9dabf6e137 mm/debug_vm_pgtable: replace pte_mkhuge() with arch_make_huge_pte()

of pte_mkhuge(). Change hugetlb_basic_tests() to call
arch_make_huge_pte() directly, and update its relevant documentation entry

Anshuman Khandual 004fc58f91 arm64/mm: Intercept pfn changes in set_pte_at()
Changing pfn on a user page table mapped entry, without first going through
break-before-make (BBM) procedure is unsafe. This just updates set_pte_at()
to intercept such changes, via an updated pgattr_change_is_safe(). This new
check happens via __check_racy_pte_update(), which has now been renamed as
__check_safe_pte_update().

Anshuman Khandual 5db568e748 arm64: errata: Workaround possible Cortex-A715 [ESR|FAR]_ELx corruption
If a Cortex-A715 cpu sees a page mapping permissions change from executable
to non-executable, it may corrupt the ESR_ELx and FAR_ELx registers, on the
next instruction abort caused by permission fault.

Only user-space does executable to non-executable permission transition via
mprotect() system call which calls ptep_modify_prot_start() and ptep_modify
_prot_commit() helpers, while changing the page mapping. The platform code
can override these helpers via __HAVE_ARCH_PTEP_MODIFY_PROT_TRANSACTION.

Work around the problem via doing a break-before-make TLB invalidation, for
all executable user space mappings, that go through mprotect() system call.
This overrides ptep_modify_prot_start() and ptep_modify_prot_commit(), via
defining HAVE_ARCH_PTEP_MODIFY_PROT_TRANSACTION on the platform thus giving
an opportunity to intercept user space exec mappings, and do the necessary
TLB invalidation. Similar interceptions are also implemented for HugeTLB.

Anshuman Khandual 7e25de77bc s390/mm: use pmd_pgtable_page() helper in __gmap_segment_gaddr()
In __gmap_segment_gaddr() pmd level page table page is being extracted
from the pmd pointer, similar to pmd_pgtable_page() implementation. This
reduces some redundancy by directly using pmd_pgtable_page() instead,

Current pmd_to_page(), which derives the page table page containing the
pmd address has a very misleading name. The problem being, it sounds
similar to pmd_page() which derives page embedded in a given pmd entry
either for next level page or a mapped huge page. Rename it as

Although pmd_present() might seem to indicate a valid and mapped pmd

Anshuman Khandual 9ed2b4616d arm64/mm: Drop redundant BUG_ON(!pgtable_alloc)
__create_pgd_mapping_locked() expects a page allocator used while mapping a
virtual range. This page allocator function propagates down the call chain,
while building intermediate levels in the page table. Passed page allocator
is a necessary ingredient required to build the page table but its presence
can be asserted just once in the very beginning rather than in all the down
stream functions. This consolidates BUG_ON(!pgtable_alloc) checks just in a
single place i.e __create_pgd_mapping_locked().

Anshuman Khandual a4ee28615c arm64/mm: Simplify and document pte_to_phys() for 52 bit addresses
pte_to_phys() assembly definition does multiple bits field transformations
to derive physical address, embedded inside a page table entry. Unlike its
C counter part i.e __pte_to_phys(), pte_to_phys() is not very apparent. It
simplifies these operations via a new macro PTE_ADDR_HIGH_SHIFT indicating
how far the pte encoded higher address bits need to be left shifted. While
here, this also updates __pte_to_phys() and __phys_to_pte_val().

Anshuman Khandual 38e4b6605e arm64/mm: Drop ARM64_KERNEL_USES_PMD_MAPS
Currently ARM64_KERNEL_USES_PMD_MAPS is an unnecessary abstraction. Kernel
mapping at PMD (aka huge page aka block) level, is only applicable with 4K
base page, which makes it 2MB aligned, a necessary requirement for linear
mapping and physical memory start address. This can be easily achieved by
directly checking against base page size itself. This drops off the macro

Anshuman Khandual b190bc4ac9 perf: Extend branch type classification
branch_entry.type now has ran out of space to accommodate more branch types
classification. This will prevent perf branch stack implementation on arm64
(via BRBE) to capture all available branch types. Extending this bit field
i.e branch_entry.type [4 bits] is not an option as it will break user space
ABI both for little and big endian perf tools.

Extend branch classification with a new field branch_entry.new_type via a
new branch type PERF_BR_EXTEND_ABI in branch_entry.type. Perf tools which
could decode PERF_BR_EXTEND_ABI, will then parse branch_entry.new_type as
well.

branch_entry.new_type is a 4 bit field which can hold upto 16 branch types.
The first three branch types will hold various generic page faults followed
by five architecture specific branch types, which can be overridden by the
platform for specific use cases. These architecture specific branch types
gets overridden on arm64 platform for BRBE implementation.

New generic branch types

 - PERF_BR_NEW_FAULT_ALGN
 - PERF_BR_NEW_FAULT_DATA
 - PERF_BR_NEW_FAULT_INST

New arch specific branch types

 - PERF_BR_NEW_ARCH_1

Anshuman Khandual a724ec8296 perf: Add system error and not in transaction branch types
This expands generic branch type classification by adding two more entries
there in i.e system error and not in transaction. This also updates the x86
implementation to process X86_BR_NO_TX records as appropriate. This changes
branch types reported to user space on x86 platform but it should not be a
problem. The possible scenarios and impacts are enumerated here.

 --------------------------------------------------------------------------
 | kernel | perf tool |                     Impact                        |
 --------------------------------------------------------------------------
 |   old  |    old    |  Works as before                                  |
 --------------------------------------------------------------------------
 |   old  |    new    |  PERF_BR_UNKNOWN is processed                     |
 --------------------------------------------------------------------------
 |   new  |    old    |  PERF_BR_NO_TX is blocked via old PERF_BR_MAX     |
 --------------------------------------------------------------------------
 |   new  |    new    |  PERF_BR_NO_TX is recognized                      |
 --------------------------------------------------------------------------

When PERF_BR_NO_TX is blocked via old PERF_BR_MAX (new kernel with old perf
tool) the user space might throw up an warning complaining about an
unrecognized branch types being reported, but it's expected. PERF_BR_SERROR
& PERF_BR_NO_TX branch types will be used for BRBE implementation on arm64
platform.

PERF_BR_NO_TX complements 'abort' and 'in_tx' elements in perf_branch_entry
which represent other transaction states for a given branch record. Because
this completes the transaction state classification.

Anshuman Khandual 92f2b8bafa drivers/perf: arm_spe: Fix consistency of SYS_PMSCR_EL1.CX
The arm_spe_pmu driver will enable SYS_PMSCR_EL1.CX in order to add CONTEXT
packets into the traces, if the owner of the perf event runs with required
capabilities i.e CAP_PERFMON or CAP_SYS_ADMIN via perfmon_capable() helper.

The value of this bit is computed in the arm_spe_event_to_pmscr() function
but the check for capabilities happens in the pmu event init callback i.e
arm_spe_pmu_event_init(). This suggests that the value of the CX bit should
remain consistent for the duration of the perf session.

However, the function arm_spe_event_to_pmscr() may be called later during
the event start callback i.e arm_spe_pmu_start() when the "current" process
is not the owner of the perf session, hence the CX bit setting is currently
not consistent.

One way to fix this, is by caching the required value of the CX bit during
the initialization of the PMU event, so that it remains consistent for the
duration of the session. It uses currently unused 'event->hw.flags' element
to cache perfmon_capable() value, which can be referred during event start
callback to compute SYS_PMSCR_EL1.CX. This ensures consistent availability
of context packets in the trace as per event owner capabilities.

Drop BIT(SYS_PMSCR_EL1_CX_SHIFT) check in arm_spe_pmu_event_init(), because
now CX bit cannot be set in arm_spe_event_to_pmscr() with perfmon_capable()
disabled.

standard vm_get_page_prot() implementation via DECLARE_VM_GET_PAGE_PROT,
which looks up a private and static protection_map[] array. Subsequently
all __SXXX and __PXXX macros can be dropped which are no longer needed.

Anshuman Khandual 840532711d mm/mmap: build protect protection_map[] with __P000
Patch series "mm/mmap: Drop __SXXX/__PXXX macros from across platforms",
v7.

__SXXX/__PXXX macros are unnecessary abstraction layer in creating the
generic protection_map[] array which is used for vm_get_page_prot(). This
abstraction layer can be avoided, if the platforms just define the array
protection_map[] for all possible vm_flags access permission combinations
and also export vm_get_page_prot() implementation.

This series drops __SXXX/__PXXX macros from across platforms in the tree.
First it build protects generic protection_map[] array with '#ifdef
__P000' and moves it inside platforms which enable
ARCH_HAS_VM_GET_PAGE_PROT. Later this build protects same array with
'#ifdef ARCH_HAS_VM_GET_PAGE_PROT' and moves inside remaining platforms
while enabling ARCH_HAS_VM_GET_PAGE_PROT. This adds a new macro
DECLARE_VM_GET_PAGE_PROT defining the current generic vm_get_page_prot(),
in order for it to be reused on platforms that do not require custom
implementation. Finally, ARCH_HAS_VM_GET_PAGE_PROT can just be dropped,
as all platforms now define and export vm_get_page_prot(), via looking up
a private and static protection_map[] array. protection_map[] data type
has been changed as 'static const' on all platforms that do not change it
during boot.

This patch (of 26):

Build protect generic protection_map[] array with __P000, so that it can
be moved inside all the platforms one after the other. Otherwise there
will be build failures during this process.
CONFIG_ARCH_HAS_VM_GET_PAGE_PROT cannot be used for this purpose as only
certain platforms enable this config now.

Anshuman Khandual 67436193c2 mm/mmap: add new config ARCH_HAS_VM_GET_PAGE_PROT
Patch series "mm/mmap: Drop arch_vm_get_page_prot() and arch_filter_pgprot()", v7.

protection_map[] is an array based construct that translates given
vm_flags combination. This array contains page protection map, which is
populated by the platform via [__S000 ..  __S111] and [__P000 ..  __P111]
exported macros. Primary usage for protection_map[] is for
vm_get_page_prot(), which is used to determine page protection value for a
given vm_flags. vm_get_page_prot() implementation, could again call
platform overrides arch_vm_get_page_prot() and arch_filter_pgprot(). Some
platforms override protection_map[] that was originally built with
__SXXX/__PXXX with different runtime values.

Currently there are multiple layers of abstraction i.e __SXXX/__PXXX
macros , protection_map[], arch_vm_get_page_prot() and
arch_filter_pgprot() built between the platform and generic MM, finally
defining vm_get_page_prot().

Hence this series proposes to drop later two abstraction levels and
instead just move the responsibility of defining vm_get_page_prot() to the
platform (still utilizing generic protection_map[] array) itself making it
clean and simple.

This first introduces ARCH_HAS_VM_GET_PAGE_PROT which enables the
platforms to define custom vm_get_page_prot(). This starts converting
platforms that define the overrides arch_filter_pgprot() or
arch_vm_get_page_prot() which enables for those constructs to be dropped
off completely.

The series has been inspired from an earlier discuss with Christoph Hellwig

https://lore.kernel.org/all/[email protected]/

This patch (of 7):

Add a new config ARCH_HAS_VM_GET_PAGE_PROT, which when subscribed enables
a given platform to define its own vm_get_page_prot() but still utilizing
the generic protection_map[] array.

Anshuman Khandual f209e9fe5b coresight: trbe: Work around the invalid prohibited states
TRBE implementations affected by Arm erratum #2038923 might get TRBE into
an inconsistent view on whether trace is prohibited within the CPU. As a
result, the trace buffer or trace buffer state might be corrupted. This
happens after TRBE buffer has been enabled by setting TRBLIMITR_EL1.E,
followed by just a single context synchronization event before execution
changes from a context, in which trace is prohibited to one where it isn't,
or vice versa. In these mentioned conditions, the view of whether trace is
prohibited is inconsistent between parts of the CPU, and the trace buffer
or the trace buffer state might be corrupted.

Work around this problem in the TRBE driver by preventing an inconsistent
view of whether the trace is prohibited or not based on TRBLIMITR_EL1.E by
immediately following a change to TRBLIMITR_EL1.E with at least one ISB
instruction before an ERET, or two ISB instructions if no ERET is to take
place. This just updates the TRBE driver as required.
